In my work, I often use symbols with historical significance. These day we're disconnected from our past, our history and heritage, and symbolism in general. Not a surprise, our modern culture yells at us "There is no meaning but stuff!"
I think some of our most powerful cultural symbols would include those used in the tarot, and the tarot goes back at least a few hundred years. The image above is inspired by the Star tarot card, which often shows a woman pouring water into water and onto the land. To my mind, the Star image is related to the astrological sign of Aquarius, and that imagery (and the others in the zodiac) goes back to the beginnings of human civilization (at the very least, maybe further even). Aquarius is usually shown pouring water, bringing gifts down from heaven to earth. To wash away and revitalize at the same time.
I'm not trying to romanticize Aquarius or anything, although we are pretty cool... Still, that's my sun sign and I know what a pain in the ass we can be, ha!
I finished this artwork toward the end of January, 2021, using Adobe Illustrator for the iPad. Although I've used Illustrator on my desktop computer for years and years, it wasn't until last fall or winter that Adobe released an iPad version, and this is the first artwork I've made using that app. Gotta say, I am impressed and they got it right! I'm sure I'll be using it a whole lot more!
