We are Every Day

Empty museums, toe shoes and subtitles come to mind for many when small talk turns to art at a cocktail party. That’s why Transfusion Hype Dance Company and artist Todd Powelson are joining forces to make art more accessible in We are Every Day.

“The most innovative developments in dance are currently taking place in ghettos and poor neighborhoods,” says Ashlee Prentice, dance company director. “The reason we get out of bed every day is not to navigate road construction or stop at the post office, but to create something beautiful through dance.”

“Hundreds of thousands of gifted artists work washing cars, laying tile and cleaning toilets, but this doesn’t lessen the importance of their work,” says Todd Powelson, the visual force behind the show. “We hope to express the frustration and inspiration in every day life, because art is everyday.”

Todd Powelson’s series of 12 paintings called Dreams for Schmidty will debut in the hallways outside the performance at the Leona Wagner Black Box Theater. Powelson’s paintings will serve as the sets and his pen and ink interpretation of We are Every Day will unite the dance and visual elements of the show through the programs, posters and website.

“We wanted every part of the show, from the sets to the flyers to be a work of art,” says Prentice.

Ashlee Prentice the creative force behind Transfusion Hype Dance Company has danced and choreographed for Michael Jackson, BB King and future Olympic gymnasts. We are Every Day is the fourth show she has directed for her dance company.

Dreams for Schmidty, a series of digital paintings inspired by dreams, is dedicated to Powelson’s friend Ben Schmidt, who died at age 18 from a rare genetic disease. More information is available at www.toddpowelson.com

We are Every Day is showing the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center October 2, 3, and 4. Tickets are $15.00 and are available through www.arttix.org or by calling (801)355-ARTS.
